Jorge Romero Denies Links to Criminal Activities

Jorge Romero, elected president of the National Action Party (PAN), has responded to the allegations made by President Claudia Sheinbaum during her morning conference. Sheinbaum linked Romero to illicit activities related to the so-called "Real Estate Cartel" in the Benito Juárez borough of Mexico City. In a message on social media, Romero denied the accusations, questioning Sheinbaum about the violence in the country and the alleged cases of corruption during Andrés Manuel López Obrador's administration.

In his statement, Romero highlighted pending complaints regarding cases such as Segalmex, the contracts for the Mayan Train attributed to relatives of López Obrador, and accusations of illicit payments to the president's family to support political movements. Furthermore, he requested Sheinbaum to publicly state her position on the violence in Sinaloa, a topic of concern in the country.

Sheinbaum's accusations were based on excerpts from the book "Difficult Decisions" by former President Felipe Calderón, which mentioned supposed irregularities in Romero's management as delegate in Benito Juárez. He was accused of generating million-dollar profits alongside alleged accomplices through extortion and the handling of street vendor associations in the borough.

Romero strongly rejected these accusations and pointed out differences between PAN's internal process and that of Morena, where, according to him, there was an individual decision. He affirmed that his party will remain focused on its electoral objectives, open to dialogue with citizens and committed to serving the public and winning elections to address the country's challenges.
